On 31 October 2022 the Governor in Council approved the appointment of Mr Simon Nicholson as the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor (WHS Prosecutor).

The Honourable Grace Grace MP, Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing has approved the appointment of David Gore to act in the role of Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, pursuant to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, effective 20 June 2022.

The Honourable Grace Grace MP, Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing has approved the appointment of Jodie Wooldridge QC to act in the role of Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, pursuant to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, effective 10 March 2022.

On 10 August 2021, Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) referred to the Office of the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor (OWHSP) a brief of evidence relating to its investigation of an explosion at the Grosvenor coal mine at Moranbah, in which multiple coal mine workers were seriously injured.

Today I advised the Honourable Grace Grace MP, Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing of my resignation as the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, with effect from 11 March 2022.

The independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle, has charged Western Meat Exporters Pty Ltd and its sole director, Campbell McPhee, with industrial manslaughter under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in relation to an incident at Charleville in July 2019.

Mr Guilfoyle has also commenced prosecutions against Orko Fertilizers Pty Ltd and three officers arising from the death of a worker on 10 March 2020.

The independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle, has charged MSF Sugar Pty Ltd with industrial manslaughter under the Electrical Safety Act 2002, in relation to an incident near Little Mulgrave in far north Queensland in July 2019. It will be alleged that a worker was fatally electrocuted when a crane contacted or came in close proximity to overhead power lines in the course of work on a cane rail system.

The independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle, has commenced prosecutions against the operator, contractor and a former site senior executive of the Curragh Mine arising from the death of coal mine worker Mr Donald Rabbitt, on 12 January 2020.

After pleading guilty, Ardent Leisure Limited has been sentenced in the Southport Magistrates Court in relation to Thunder River Rapids Ride tragedy at Dreamworld on 25 October 2016, where four people lost their lives.

The independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle, has commenced an industrial manslaughter prosecution against the owner of a Gympie business which sells and services electric motors.
