On 20 December 2024, a timber mill company was convicted in the Brisbane Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) (the Act), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty pursuant to section 19(1).

On 18 December 2024, a company was sentenced in the Cleveland Magistrates Court for breaching section 40(1)(b) of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with their primary health and safety duty.

(‘the Act’). The defendant company failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty, thereby exposing workers to the risk of death or serious injury. The defendant worker failed to take reasonable care that his acts or omissions did not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons, and the failure exposed individuals to a risk of death or serious injury.

On 11 December 2024, a construction company was sentenced in the Maryborough Magistrates Court for breaching section 19 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with their primary health and safety duty.

A residential housing construction business has been fined as a result of a workplace incident where a young school-based apprentice was injured when a scaffold component dislodged and fell, striking them in the head. The company carried out housing construction at various workplaces in Queensland and at the time of this incident it was constructing a two-storey residence at Parrearra, a locale in the Sunshine Coast region. It employed a number of workers including a site supervisor who was responsible for the Parrearra site along with several other construction sites.

On 26 November 2024, a defendant company was sentenced in the Caloundra Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty. The defendant was fined $45,000.

On 25 November 2024, Gough Industries Pty Ltd was sentenced in the Townsville Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty.
