On 19 February 2024, a waste resource recycling and transfer company was sentenced in the Brisbane Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty.

On 14 February 2024, the defendant, a local government authority, was sentenced in the Southport Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty. The failure exposed an individual to a risk of death or serious injury.

On 13 February 2024, a company was sentenced in the Emerald Magistrates Court for breaching sections 346(1) and 425(1) of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (‘the Regulation’). The defendant company’s sole director pleaded guilty to failing to have a hazardous chemicals register and an asbestos register in place at his workplace.

On 9 February, a company was sentenced in the Wynnum Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’). The defendant pleaded guilty to failing to comply with its primary health and safety duty, thereby exposing workers to the risk of death or serious injury.

On 31 January 2024, a company and its director were each sentenced in the Townsville Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’) when a worker fell after and inadequately supported steel truck trailer body overbalanced, toppled and struck him in the head and face knocking him to the ground. He sustained serious facial fracture injuries.

On 30 January 2024, a mobile crane operator was sentenced in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with his health and safety duty as a worker pursuant to section 28 of the Act.

On 23 January 2024 an electrical contractor was convicted in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court of a ‘category 2’ offence against section 40C of the Electrical Safety Act 2022 (ES Act).

On 19 January 2024, a company and its director were each sentenced in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’) when a worker fell 9.8 metres through corroded roof sheeting and landed on a concrete floor sustaining serious facial and fracture injuries.

On 19 January 2024, a timber manufacturer was sentenced in the Brisbane Magistrates Court for breaching section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty pursuant to section 19(1) of the Act.

On 16 January 2024, a local government entity was sentenced in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court for breaching section 40C of the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (‘the Act’), having failed to comply with its primary health and safety duty pursuant to section 30 of the Act.
