The independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle, has laid charges against Ardent Leisure Limited regarding the tragic incident at Dreamworld in October 2016 where four people lost their lives on the Thunder River Rapids Ride.

From today, serious Resources Safety and Health (RSH) prosecutions will be referred to the independent Work Health and Safety (WHS) Prosecutor, Mr Aaron Guilfoyle.

On 11 June 2020, in the Brisbane District Court, Australia’s first conviction and sentence for industrial manslaughter was handed down. The defendant, Brisbane Auto Recycling Pty Ltd, had on 3 April 2020 entered a guilty plea to one offence contrary to s34C of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Following recommendations in the Coroner’s report, Queensland’s independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, Aaron Guilfoyle, is determining whether or not to commence a prosecution under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
